Here Comes The Sun...

The Beatles couldn’t have said it any better.  Arizona Public Service Company CEO, Don Brandt, was named the Solar Electric Power Association’s “Utility CEO of the Year.”  The honor recognizes Brandt’s leadership in moving solar initiatives forward in Arizona.  These initiatives include APS’ role in the Solana solar plant, which will be the world’s largest when built; a commitment to invest $500 million to develop 100 megawatts of utility-owned generation; a pilot project to provide solar panels on customer homes with no up-front costs; and a partnership with the National Park Service to power the Grand Canyon Visitor’s Center with solar panels.

AIC congratulates Mr. Brandt on his award.  It’s clear Arizona has a comparative advantage in solar generation, given our average annual 330 days of sunshine.  We should take every reasonable opportunity to capitalize on this emerging industry in meeting our future energy needs.
